A family in Amersfoort wanted to enlarge their forest villa with the bedrooms for three children, and a separate bar and party space.
This extension required a big volume. The existing house was made of two volumes. A new volume of similar proportions was created to find reference to the existing house. Part of the volume was placed under ground, thereby creating a split-level lay-out. This lay-out also referred to the existing house: there the fitness room and scullery are partly underground.
The bedrooms of the children were positioned on the ground floor. In order to include the terrace during a party, the bar room was created with a large glass folding wall. The space on the highest level does not have direct daylight, therefore it was perfect to use as a movie and game room.
